The original brief was to design and build a large sculpture that could be assembled live in front of an audience using crystal shards given as souvenirs. We created a 20-foot-tall crystalline DNA structure as the centerpiece for the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal wing opening. We also proposed adding several iconic characters and creatures inspired by the museum’s exhibits. After presenting an animated digital pitch, we were approved to create six additional crystal-accented historical figures, including a 6-foot praying mantis on spring-loaded stilts, two 10-foot walking Anubis statues, and, of course, a 26-foot walking T-Rex skeleton—because what’s a museum without one?
